Knowing the Role Of A Dive Guide For Safer Diving
You might feel more secured when you see a dive guide on your way to your diving destination. On the contrary, dive guides are not there to keep you safe. Rather, they are there to assess the suitability and safety of the dive site. Moreover, they would act as your tour guide most of time.
Dive masters have specialized responsibilities when conducting guided dives. Here are some of the key roles of a dive guide that you need to know about.
Key roles of a dive guide
- To assess the hazardous condition of a dive site and to inform the divers of the potential hazards
- To brief the divers on the points of interest and layouts of a dive site
- To suggest routes at a particular site for autonomous divers to take on a dive
- To check divers in and out of the water from a shore entry point or a boat
- To lead a group of divers in the water to serve as a tour guide
However, it is not the role of the dive guide to conduct monitoring underwater. Moreover, it is not the task of the dive guide to make sure that you are diving within the bounds of safety.
If you are with the group, it is your responsibility to stick to the plan or briefing when it comes to depth, places to go, and more. In the case where the diver disobeys or shies away from the briefing, then it is no longer the fault of the dive guide.
The limitations of the certification will be used when you want to plan and conduct your own dives with a companion. In this sense, the dive guide will be the one who will help you in getting the most out of your dives in unfamiliar locations and avoid potential risks.
Manage your own dives
In other words, it will be your sole responsibility to manage your own dives from beginning to end. For instance, you must be able to know your own capacity to dive on any particular day. Moreover, you need to have a decision where you think it is comfortable considering the dive location and conditions.
