The Top Three Ocean Cleanup Drives in the United States for 2023

There has been a huge effort towards cleaning up the oceans to preserve what is remaining of the country’s marine life and prevent further damage to it.

If you want to join in this revolution, here are the top three ocean cleanup drives in the country this year:

1. International Coastal Cleanup Day

Founded over 30 years ago, the International Coastal Cleanup Day aims to encourage members of the community not only in the United States but also around the world to be more conscious about cleaning their coasts. This year, the annual event will be on September 16 and different organizations around the country will lead the worldwide coastal cleanup drive.

2. California Coastal Cleanup Day

Having one of the longest coastlines in the country, California has made efforts to keep its coasts clean. This is why the California Coastal Cleanup Day was born and this year, it will take place on September 23. Hosted by the California Coastal Commission, you can join as a volunteer to help out in this cause.

3. First Day Beach Cleanup

The Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation has been working on helping to keep the coasts of New Hampshire clean. On New Year’s Day, the organization together with its volunteers gathered together on Jenness Beach in Rye for the New Year Beach Cleanup.

In 2022, the same event was able to collect more than 10,500 pieces of debris most of which were from the New Year’s celebration. It included 4,450 pieces of cardboard that were used from fireworks, 42 metal beverage cans and 273 plastic wrappers.

Whether you’re a lover of the ocean or not, it’s very important to take part in ocean cleanup drives as a volunteer because it will make such a huge difference to the world we live in.

These small steps will not only help to save what’s left of the world’s marine life, but they will also secure a better future for the next generations. So, what are you waiting for? Join a cleanup drive near you this year!
