Scuba Diving Latest News: Uncovering Coral Reefs Deep, Deep Down

If you are an avid scuba diver or just a fan of the sport, check out some of the latest updates in  scuba diving you might have missed this year. In fact, there are a number of new discoveries that could be essential to scuba divers.

Coral Reefs In The Deep Areas Of The Ocean Found

In a recent collaborative discovery by the College of Charleston, University of California, University of Hawaii, and the University of Washington there are deep areas in the oceans that are home to extensive coral reef communities. In this case, researchers used sophisticated diving equipment or a submersible watercraft to study ocean life at the mesophotic zone.

The team has explored the largest known coral reef located at the Hawaiian Archipelago wherein life along the coral reef was found. These areas have less than 1% possibility to be hit by light.

It is important to know how deep coral reefs would function because they could be possible hotspots for biodiversity. These are also home to many species found in such locations. Almost half of all corals found in the ocean were already lost in the last 30 years due to warm water temperatures in shallower reefs wherein they are prone to stress.

Age Actually Doesn’t Matter In Scuba Diving

You may wonder if people could still enjoy scuba diving when they get old. The truth is that it doesn’t really matter how old you are. Rather, you only need to be healthy and fit if you are really interested about the sport.

As a matter of fact, there is no age limit for the sport. In recent studies, it is only the physiological age that matters a lot and not the chronological age to determine if the person is fit to learn  scuba diving.

Due to the fact that scuba diving is a gear-intensive and challenging activity, seniors are advised to ensure that they are physically fit before they attempt to do it. Those over the age of 45 need to acquire medical clearance before they can sign up for scuba lessons.

This is because certain conditions could complicate during diving, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, among other concerns.
