Scuba Community Events For AWARE Week 2021

A lot of activities await divers from all over the world during the AWARE Week. This year’s celebration of the event encourages divers to participate and take action through the efforts of their local PADI dive centers.

Here are a number of activities that could take place within your locale.

Ghost Gear Underwater Clean Up in Peru

The annual Ghost Gear Underwater Clean-up will focus on the retrieval of the ghost gear drifting in the ocean and entangling lots of marine life. These are discarded or lost fishing nets, as well as derelict fishing gear causing harm to the ocean.

Dive and Beach Clean Up Campaign in California, USA

The Pacific Beach Hopping Campaign activities will focus on the famous and beautiful Aliso Beach in the state. Divers and their families are encouraged to help with the Dive Against Debris surveys and beach clean-up drives.

Cleanup ‘Big Island’ Home in Hawaii, USA

During the AWARE Week, the World Manta Day will be honored. Thus, the host of the Cleanup ‘Big Island’ Home event will be participated by the Ocean Defenders Alliance and the Manta Pacific Foundation. This will aid in the removal of marine debris since the area is a favorite site of mantas.

Splash for Trash in the UK

The Splash for Trash activity will be hosted by the Scuba Leeds in North Wales in England. This will actually transform a shore dive at the Treaddur Bay into a Dive Against Debris. This event will encourage participants to get as much litter out of the water as possible.

Dive Against Debris Specialty and Beach Clean Up in Indonesia

If you happen to be in Indonesia for the AWARE Week 2021, you can earn the PADI AWARE Specialty Diver certification to join the largest underwater citizen science movement in the world and to make a difference.

AWARE Clean-up Dives in Curacao

The PADI AWARE Clean-up dives is hosted monthly by the Dive Bus shop in Curacao. In celebration of the AWARE Week, the shop will head out to two of the country’s healthiest and most famous dive sites, ADS-88 and Car Pile.
